President's
Update
Members and
Friends of Auburn,
I wanted to supply some clarification on the recent decision to cancel the
2008 Beat Bama party. It was certainly not a decision that myself or the
board of directors took lightly. We had originally decided to have the
event on a Saturday evening thinking that it would allow for more people to
come than on a weeknight as we have had in the past. That proved to be
a wrong decision. There are several other events going on that evening
in the Huntsville area that were keeping many people from being able to
attend, not to mention the Thanksgiving Holiday right around the corner.
Secondly, as many of you well know, we recently had one of our more
successful events just three weeks ago at the U.S. Space & Rocket
Center's Davidson Center. Even with our football team somewhat
struggling this year, we had a great turnout and a tremendous show of
support for not just our Club, but for the team as well. That being
said, with these tough economic times, there are only so many times that we
wanted to continue to "go to the well" and get financial support
from people in this area.
We have worked very hard this year in raising funds to send deserving high
school students from this area to Auburn, which ultimately is our number one
goal. In fact, even with rising tuition, we were able to give over
$25,000 in scholarships. So the possibility of losing a large portion
of our profits that we gained from our events this past year would directly
and adversely affect the number of scholarships that we give out next year.
That was not a risk that we were willing to take.
I cannot say enough about the people and businesses in this area
and their support of Auburn and of our Club. Their generosity is
what allows us to do the things that we do year in and year out.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at bradleygh22@aol.com
